Average Cost of Common ATV Repairs

Average Cost of Common ATV Repairs

Being able to make any type of mechanical repairs can seem impossible to attempt on your own. This is why it is sometimes better to leave any necessary repairs to the mechanic. This is especially true if you are not 100 percent confident that you can do the repair correctly. Because of this concern, this is where a mechanic comes into play that knows everything about your ATV.

Before heading out to the first ATV mechanic that you find, you need to be aware that the price for each repair will differ from one mechanic to the next. Below, you will find the average cost of common ATV repairs.

Oil Changes

ATV fluid changes, such as oil, will always be a good idea and one that includes a new oil filter will make it even better. As far as the price is concerned, it shouldn’t be any more than what you pay for your car’s service. This averages out to be around $35-$40.

Doing an oil change at home will cost around the same and the only real difference will be the brand of oil that is chosen for it.

Air Filter Replacement
It’s common to find many ATVs being used in dirty environments. This is fine because this is what they are also designed for, right? Well, yes and no. This is because the air filter is not protected from sucking in dirt and debris so it can become easily clogged. When an air filter becomes clogged the ATV will begin to experience both poor performance and a decreased amount of gas mileage. Although cleaning the air filter will help it last longer, it will need to be changed out routinely.

The average cost for an air filter replacement at a dealer is not known because it is usually included in full service maintenance. However, doing it at home will not be too expensive and averages around $10-$25 and is also determined by the filter’s brand.

Replacing the Brake Pads

Replacing the ATVs brake pads involve both the new pads and the brake lines being bled. This should be completed for each brake pad that is replaced. On average, the cost of replacing ATV brake pads will run between $35-$60 each.

Replacing ATV brake pads at home will cost anywhere between $15-$50 and depends on the model of the ATV and brand of brake pads that are used.

Complete Engine Rebuild

Having a complete engine rebuild on an ATV involves many different parts that all play an important role in the performance of an ATV. For a rebuild, these parts include the pistons, valves, the rings for the piston, the wall hone of the cylinder, seals, and the gaskets and spark plugs. As previously mentioned, the purpose is to boost the ATVs efficiency and fuel economy.

The average cost for a complete engine rebuild at a reputable ATV shop will cost somewhere of $600-$800. This difference is determined by the fact if the ATV is either a 2 or 4-stroke. With so many more possible repairs that could be covered, these happen to be the most common ATV repairs that are dealt with on a daily schedule.
